内容記述 During the 17th-18th century, composers of the Neapolitan School dominated the western music world. There is a training system in the Neapolitan tradition called "Partimento." Because of their rise, almost every musician by that time had learned or at least got influenced by partimento. The Neapolitan masters would have their students begin with the simplest partimenti, which only contains consonance by following the basic rule of practice, which they call regole. Then the master will gradually increase the difficulty of the partimento, which will become more complex. Fedele Fenaroli, one of the most famous Neapolitan masters, wrote a book of partimento rules and six books of partimenti. In his teaching method, he divided the rules into about four categories. The first category is the basic fundaments and cadence. The second category is the rule of the octave, which provides the beginner with a basic rule to accompany every scale degree in the key. The third category is the usage of dissonance, in which Fenaroli used a special three-step teaching method to teach the student. The fourth category is the Bass Motion of partimento. Fenaroli gave a lot of examples and possibilities for the student to accompany if the bass moves in some specific ways. When students learn those rules, they must realize the figured or unfigured partimento. This paper will focus on the study of Fenaroli's partimento rules as preparation for further research on partimento.
